Application Procedures for the Health Information Management Program



To apply to the Health Information Management program:

  1. Complete all preparatory work before beginning the Health Information Management curriculum;

  2. A minimum 2.5 grade-point average on each of the following prerequisites, completed prior to enrollment for fall semester, is required, for a minimum total of 63 credit hours. Note: The course numbers listed are KU course numbers; yours may differ if obtain from another institution.

    COMS 130 Speaker-Audience Communication

    HUMANITIES
    6 credit hours

    BIOLOGY
    BIOL 100 Principles of Biology
    BIOL 102 Principles of Biology Lab
    BIOL 240 Fundamentals of Human Anatomy
    BIOL 246 Principles of Human Physiology

    BUSINESS
    ACCT 200 Financial Accounting I

    SOCIAL SCIENCES
    PSYC 104 General Psychology
    SOC 104 Elements of Sociology

    Students must earn a C or above on all prerequisite coursework.
    Non-University of Kansas courses used as prerequisites must be approved by the HIM faculty. Before applying to the program please contact the admissions coordinator with questions about course requirements.

  3. Submit application materials (below) prior to the February 1 application deadline.

Download the following HIM Application packet, print all pages and complete the forms. Print information clearly and use the following as a guide to ensure all documents are submitted properly to the department. The free Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view and print this document.

Once the application materials have been received, the prospective student will be notified to schedule an interview with the department faculty.

No grade lower than a "C" is accepted in any prerequisite course. Students on the Lawrence campus should declare pre-health information management as their major. They also must contact the Health Information Management department for assignment to an adviser. In addition, all prospective students should plan on acquiring the University of Kansas Undergraduate Catalog.
