About KU's Health Information Management Program



Health Information Management (formerly "Medical Record Administration") accepted its first 3 students in 1971 for completion of a post-baccalaureate certificate. In 1978 the first Bachelor of Science degrees were awarded. Beginning fall 2002, the HIM program discontinued the 12 month curriculum (The last 12-month class graduated in May, 2002.) and implemented a 24-month program. Mrs. Sue Malone was chair from 1980 to 1995. Mrs. Alice Junghans ran the program from 1996 to 2000. Mr. Don Kellogg chaired the program from 2000 to 2002, and the current chairperson is Mr. Karl Koob.

Mission
The mission of the KU Department of Health Information Management is to educate and prepare progressive and highly qualified professionals who provide leadership in diverse global healthcare and business information environments while promoting excellence in Health Information Management.

The KU Department of Health Information Management strives to be a premier academic program providing advance knowledge through academics, professional development, research, and technology in a global healthcare/business environment to meet the needs of all communities of interest.
